Meet the team

MADE has a staff team based in central Birmingham and a management board that meets 4 times a year. Architect Glenn Howells is the Chair of the MADE board. Expert reference groups and advisors are appointed on a project basis. The team is often extended to add capacity and value to project delivery and evaluation. On these occasions, we draw on our expanding network of consultants and freelance project managers.

Julia Ellis, Chief Executive

Julia studied at University of Warwick and the Courtauld Institute of Art. After working for local authority galleries and museums she became, over a 10 year period, the Founder Director of Craftspace Touring, the Birmingham -based touring and development agency for contemporary craft. She then worked as a freelance curator and consultant before joining MADE as project co-ordinator in 2001. Julia's introduction to MADE, in the context of the Urban Renaissance, CABE, RIBA West Midlands and regional design initiatives and agendas, fuelled her commitment to collaborative practice, to the engagement of people in design processes, and to the role of architecture centres as agents of change. Threads linking all areas of work include sense of place, questions of identity and the value of cultural, social and historical context.

Jane Puzey, Head of Cultural Programmes
jane@made.org.uk

Jane's background is in policy, income generation and project development for health and environment charities, including the British Red Cross, BackCare, Transport 2000 and The Wildlife Trusts. She is particularly proud of her fundraising role in the Environment Agency's flagship low-carbon office in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Most recently she has been regional policy and partnerships manager with the Big Lottery Fund. She believes that our surroundings have a strong influence on our lives. One of the best things she's seen recently is children playing in the fountains in Centenary Square - children playing outside, making lots of noise, and even getting completely soaked, is one of the signs of a healthy community.

Sally grew up in rural North Yorkshire, graduated from the University of Liverpool in Economics and Politics and spent two years working in sales in America. On returning, she worked in estate agency in Birmingham, experience of selling all types of property, from plush city centre apartments to traditional terraces; inner city ex-local authority housing, to gleaming suburban new builds and her fair share of three bed semi's along the way, helped develop an appreciation of the value of good design. This growing passion for architecture and the designed environment led her to MADE where she now runs the office and is studying part time to become a Landscape Architect.   Sally is currently on maternity leave, her post is being covered by Catherine Fudge.

Managing the Front of House and working as administrative support she developed a great enthusiasm for architecture and interest in the built environment. In 2008 she was approached by Kinetic AIU to join their team and manage the studio. Now working for both MADE and Kinetic she continues to build on her experience and is proud to be involved with two such dynamic organisations, contributing to the exciting yet thoughtful development of the designed environment.
