The climate change festival, 31st May – 8th June 2008, Birmingham.

31 May – 8 June 2008

Every age has its challenge. Ours is climate change. To meet it, we need to find new ways to make our city greener, fairer and more beautiful The Birmingham climate change festival runs from Saturday 31 May – Sunday 8 June 2008. It features exhibitions, events, art and fun for everyone. It will help you to see your city with new eyes. Why are cities so important? Because the environmental crisis is largely a result of the way we’ve designed our cities. Half of all carbon emissions come from the places we have built.

Climate change affects everyone who lives or works in the city. Many people have friends and relatives already directly affected. So it’s up to all of us to respond to it. But tackling climate change isn’t about self-denial – it’s about reinvention. Reinventing the city, redesigning the way it works, changing the way we all manage our lives. Going green could make cities more beautiful, more sociable, and more prosperous. We think that’s worth celebrating with a festival.

The climate change festival is organised by Birmingham City Council and CABE, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment – the government’s champion for well-designed buildings and spaces. It is supported by BeBirmingham, Advantage West Midlands, Crest Nicholson and E.On.
