Places still available for CABE urban design summer school

A few places are still available for the CABE 2010 urban design summer school at Aston University in Birmingham, which is taking place from 11th-14th July 2010. The theme of this year’s summer school, led by MADE, is ‘designing sustainable places’.

The summer school draws together professionals and practitioners from across the built environment sector and is relevant for anyone whose work involves the design, development and management of buildings, spaces and neighbourhoods.

Learning is tailored towards delegates’ interests with activities, site visits and a city walk. The summer school will explore industry best practice and will include speeches from leading professionals who will share their experience and knowledge.

Richard Simmons, Chief executive of CABE, said:‘The CABE urban design summer school has become an established event in the design calendar. It is a unique opportunity for practitioners of different disciplines to work together on real-life design projects and discover how to create high quality places.’

Julia Ellis Chief executive of MADE, said:‘We are really thrilled to be bringing the summer school back to Birmingham in 2010. I know there is a lot of excitement and support in the city and the region.’

Paul Spooner, Regional Director, HCA West Midlands said: ‘At the HCA we want to ensure that all of our investments create great places as well as increasing the number of homes available. Urban design skills are key to achieving this aim and so we are very please to support the urban design summer school.'

The summer school has 130 spaces and is open to both UK and international delegates. Over the last seven years it has welcomed participants from as far away as Trinidad, Australia and Slovenia. To book a space visit www.udss.org.uk
