Applications are now open for ‘Orange and Green II’s Sustainable Designs and Built Environment paid placements in Spain, organised by our friends at Beam.

The Programme

Orange and Green II is a transnational programme funded by the European Union’s Leonardo da Vinci Lifelong Learning Programme, that will involve 27 individuals wishing to develop their knowledge and understanding of sustainable design, the built environment and the role that culture and the arts has in creating more sustainable place making.

Participants will spend 10 weeks in either Cordoba or Seville with Spanish employers (Hosts) commencing in January or April 2013.

The Aim:

  • To provide participants with an understanding of the impact the changing environment is having in Southern Europe.
  • Exchange information and ideas between built environment colleagues and policy makers.
  • To explore how the ‘arts’ within different cultures can inform and effect the development of public spaces and the wider public realm.

Previous Programmes:

Participants of the 2011/12 visit achieved:

  • An understanding of the changes and challenges faced in Andalucía.
  • An understanding of the software used (developed in temperate northern climate) to test and design passive sustainable buildings and the difficulties when applying it to a Southern climate.
  • Developed confidence and knowledge through first hand experience in a changing professional environment.
  • Gained confidence in their professional abilities and improved skills and knowledge in their professional fields.
  • Six people from the programme have established further work in Seville as a consequence of their experiences.

One participant commented “I have gained valuable experience working in the host practice, learnt what it is like to also work in a professional environment in another country, their work customs and structure of business. Language skills have developed, professional contacts made, and personal confidence improved.

Deadline

Candidates are asked to submit an application detailing areas of specific interest and what they hope to gain from the placement. Applications must be received by E-mail by 9am on Friday 9th November 2012.
