Elected members and officers from Stratford upon Avon District Council were the latest in the region to get design quality training from MADE. The evening session in the council chamber focussed on some of the key design issues that have come up in design review including legibility and connection, the need for real streets, and the difference between streets and highways. The councillors and officers then looked at a planning proposal from another district to explore some of the ideas that had been discussed and heard what MADE’s design review panel had said about it. Feedback from the session was very positive.
Design training is part of a package of support that MADE is providing for Stratford upon Avon District Council. Similar packages are being provided for Malvern Hills and Solihull each containing a mix of design review and training. Member training is a high priority for a number of local authorities as they try to meet the design ambitions of the NPPF. With the advent of neighbouring planning, presentations to parish councillors are also in demand.
