The MADE international urban design summer school will take place in Birmingham from the 19th – 22nd June 2011. This follows MADE’s successful leadership of the CABE urban design summer school in 2010. Following loss of DCMS funding CABE will not be continuing in its present form and so MADE will be carrying on the summer school series under its own banner.

The school provides four days of intensive learning on how to create high-quality sustainable places. Work around a live urban design project is interspersed with walking seminars, short-sharp skills workshops, presentations from leading practitioners and opportunities to see some of the best developments in the Birmingham area. The school is aimed at architects, planners, engineers, those working in housing and regeneration, community leaders and elected members. The school is suitable for all levels of ability from beginners to experienced urban designers.

MADE's Interim Chief Executive, David Tittle said: "775 people have attended the seven summer schools offered by CABE since its launch in 2004 and we did not want to let this valuable learning event disappear. While the summer school has always been popular with international delegates this year we hope to attract even more, and we will combine the school with an opportunity to visit some of the most celebrated developments in the UK. This is a great opportunity for Birmingham and the West Midlands to get involved and showcase our work."

MADE will be looking for firms in the region to host and sponsor events or provide staff for the school.

Further details will appear on the summer school website
