Engaging Communities

MADE works with children and young people to ensure they have a real influence over the design of the built environment. What interests us is achieving design excellence, ensuring the voices of young people are heard, and providing new experiences which raise expectation and aspirations.

We do this by creating opportunities to bring together young people and built environment professionals to work as equal partners on real design projects. We promote the use of innovative approaches and tools to engage and inspire young people. We help to develop bespoke programmes which respond to the needs of the young people and optimise the opportunities for place-making. And we develop tailored programmes for individual schools to optimise opportunities for student engagement and learning.

We are particularly interested in providing meaningful work experience for Diploma students (especially Construction and the Built Environment) and ensuring the whole school community is engaged in Building Schools for the Future. Contact jane@made.org.uk to discuss your ideas.

MADE is supported in this work by CABE, Bournville Village Trust and The Ove Arup Foundation. In 2009, MADE was shortlisted for an HCA Academy Award for ‘Investing in Young People’ and holds a Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge.
