This MADE service aligns with regional strategies and supports delivery vehicles in an integrated partnership approach to improving design quality. The service has been advised by, and will connect with, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment’s - CABE’s - national design review service and Urban Vision’s North Staffordshire panel. It will support clients, planning officers and councillors in understanding and measuring good design, encouraging good schemes and identifying and resisting poor quality development.

On Monday 31st March 2008 the inaugural DRWM service users event was held at Baskerville House, Centenary Square This event was to celebrate the first year of this regional Design Review service and take the opportunity for feedback from a wide variety of parties engaged within the process.

A structured debate highlighted some relevant key issues to continue to develop Design Review West Midlands, and strengthen our existing linkages with partners in the region. This intelligence will be collated and relevant improvements implemented.

Delegates included a diverse mix of local authority officers, consultants and Panel Members. The keynote speaker was Ken Shuttleworth giving a presentation on The Cube, coming soon to Birmingham.
